The M320 Grade Launch Module (GLM) is the US military designation. for a new 40mm single-shot launcher to replace the M203
For the USA Army, while other services initially continued to use the old M203. The M320 uses the same High-Low propulsion system as the M203.
In 2004, the Army announced a requirement for a commercial 40 mm launcher. It must be more reliable, ergonomic, accurate and safer than the M203. It would fire all 40mm low-velocity rounds, but be breech-loading to accept longer projectiles in the future. Heckler & Koch's presentation was selected in May 2005.

After leading the U.S. Armed with Picatinny Arsal's competitive bidding process for a new 40mm launch system, Heckler & Koch was awarded the contract to supply the XM320 beginning in 2006. The M320 is based on the earlier Heckler & Koch AG-C, but with some military-specific modifications. Includes a folding front handle and a shorter barrel for a more compact package. The sights must be set up to shoot accurately with slightly different ballistics from the shorter barrel length. The system should be lighter than the M203 (it's actually a bit heavier) and requires no special mounting hardware. Breechloading allows the gunner to load a shell while maintaining sight of the target.
Weighs 3.57 lb (1.62 kg) in base configuration, 3.89 lb (1.76 kg) with LRF and electronic viewfinder, and 4.8 lb (2.2 kg) with stock attached.
The sights on the M320 are located on the side of the launcher, avoiding the problems of the M203 with its sight design, which is mounted on top of the launcher and can interfere with the rifle sights, so they had to be attached separately. This means that two separate operations must be performed in which the grade launcher is added to the weapon, and since the sights are not an integral part of the M203, they must be re-zeroed each time the launcher is reattached to the rifle. LRF helps eliminate range estimation errors common on shots over 100 yards, increasing the likelihood of a first-round hit.

The M320 can fire all NATO markings with high explosives, smoke and illumination. Its breech operations are lateral, allowing it to fire a variety of newer cartridges that are longer, particularly certain non-lethal cartridges such as the Federal Labs "accurate impact" (brand name), the wand of non-lethal sponge or sponge grade.
M203 Grenade Launcher
The M320 operates in double-action mode with an ambidextrous safety. In the event of a misfire, the M320 operator only needs to pull the trigger. The M203 used a single-action mode that cocked the weapon while the barrel was open. The operator of the M203 must actuate the barrel by unlocking it and pushing it forward to engage the weapon and close the barrel again by pulling the trigger again. The problem here is that when opening the pipe, the grade is designed to be thrown, and the operator must ensure that it does not fall to the ground.
